FUNCTIONAL CAPACITY EVALUATIONS
Functional capacity evaluations (FCE) is designed to provide an objective measure of a patient's/client's safe functional abilities. It is a very detailed examination that will measure the patient's current level of function as compared to the physical demands of the patient's job description. It provides a comprehensive screening with specific tests that involves 3 components: patient/client history, systems review, and tests & measurements.
Our evaluators use the Matheson System of evaluation. Our FCE's are a very detailed and complex evaluation lasting between 6-8 hours. All adjustors or case managers will receive a complete report of the evaluation.
The FCE will help to determine:
Return to work and job placement decisions
Disability evaluations
Determining work function with non-work related illness and injuries
Determining function in non-occupational settings
Provide intervention and treat plans
Aid in case management and case closure
Admission Criteria for the FCE:
Patient must be mentally stable
Patient must consent to participate
Indications which may warrant an FCE:
A point is reached where the patient is not making functional gains with treatment
Patient has not returned to full or modified duty
Patient is working, but demonstrates difficulty maintaining job function
Patient demonstrates a decline in physical condition resulting in a decrease in job related function
Patient demonstrates discrepancy between subjective and objective findings
Scheduling an FCE:
All FCE's must be pre-approved with the clinic prior to performing the evaluation
Authorization for payment in full must be signed and returned
Performance Assessment Info Page must be filled and and returned
A copy of the patient's job description must be provided prior the evaluation
All physician notes must be faxed to the evaluator
